This unique captain-and-crew golf outing will take place at the historic Thousand Islands Country Club, nestled on Wellesley Island, one of the region’s largest and most picturesque islands.

Established in 1894, the Old Course offers challenging fairways, scenic water views, and a rich legacy from the gilded age. The Course originally funded by industrial tycoons the likes of John D. RockefellerGeorge Pullman and George Boldt with a $100,000 Initiation Fee

Named after Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, this island is steeped in history, with many landmarks bearing the names of the Duke’s victorious battles. It’s also home to the U.S. span of the iconic Thousand Islands Bridge, offering breathtaking views of the St. Lawrence River’s narrows.

Description

Step off the mainland and into the rich history of Grindstone Island during the NYAMA Fall Conference's exclusive networking outing. Designed for aviation professionals and enthusiasts alike, this one-of-a-kind experience seamlessly blends opportunity for meaningful networking with unique cultural and recreational activities.

Board the Clayton Island Tours boat and cruise across the stunning St. Lawrence Seaway to Grindstone Island’s Upper Town Landing. Here begins a captivating day of exploration and connection!

Your adventure continues on Grindstone Island with transportation provided by the Grindstone Island Winery. Along the way:

  • Visit Historical Landmarks: Enjoy wine tastings at both the Upper and Lower Schoolhouses. The Upper Schoolhouse, now the Grindstone Island Research and Heritage Center, remains preserved as it once was. The Lower Schoolhouse, transformed into the Heritage Museum, showcases artifacts and stories of island life and its rich history.
  • Savor Gorgeous Views: While traveling on well-worn dirt roads, take in the scenic beauty of oak forests and farmland dotted with grazing cattle.

Important Note: Attendees must be 13+ or 5-12 if accompanied by an adult. For safety reasons, children requiring car seats cannot attend.

Experience an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield at Fort Drum, the largest single-site employer in New York State and home to the 10th Mountain Division.

  • Army Air Traffic Control Tower

Visit the Army’s tallest air traffic control tower, standing at an impressive 200 feet with an 850-square-foot cab. See firsthand how air traffic operations are managed at this vital military airfield.

  • State-of-the-Art Flight Simulators

Get up close with advanced simulators for Apache, Blackhawk, and Chinook helicopters. These simulators are critical tools for training Army aviators, offering unmatched realism and precision.

Learn about the airfield's origins, named after two pioneering pilots who tragically lost their lives in a 1927 accident.

This guided tour offers aviation enthusiasts, history buffs, and conference attendees a unique opportunity to see the facilities and airfield operations integral to training Army aviators and supporting military missions.

Schedule:

  • Departure: Self drive to the Watertown International Airport parking lot 22564 Airport Drive, Dexter, NY 13634. Depart via bus promptly at 11:00 AM.
  • Return: Arrive back at the Watertown International Airport by 3:00 PM.

CONFERENCE CANCELLATION POLICY

All cancellations must be made in writing and received by the NYAMA Office according to the following schedule:

  • Cancellations received on or before 8/20/25 will receive a 100% refund.

  • Cancellations received on or before 8/21/25 - 8/30/25 will receive a 75% refund.

  • Cancellations received on or before 9/2/25 - 9/9/25 will receive a 50% refund.

  • Cancellations received after 9/9/25 will receive NO refund.

There will be no refunds issued for no shows or early departures. Participants are otherwise responsible for all charges outlined in the registration form submitted to the NYAMA Office.
